Appearance: Standing at 5'3'' and very slender, Nanami doesn't exactly look intimidating. She has blonde hair just past her shoulders, and usually keeps it french braided at the crown of her head. (Basically like a braided headband.) She's very pale skinned, with purple eyes and angular facial features.

Nanami is usually in her school uniform or student council uniform. For school, she wears the basic girl's uniform: a short, teal, pleated skirt with a white stripe on the bottom and a tailored white blouse with large sleeves and a teal sailor's collar. Her student council uniform is a bright yellow jacket with black accents and cuffs and epaulets on the shoulders, worn with bright yellow spandex shorts worn over black leggings. When out of her uniforms, Nanami is very conscious about what she wears. Every dress or outfit is perfect for her Queen Bee attitude and status.

She always wear the rose signet on her ring finger, proudly showing her status as a duellist and student council member.

Personality: Nanami is a spoiled brat. Above everything else, that's just who she is. She's the Queen Bee of her class, and has the personality to match. To her classmates, Nanami is sweet, caring and a symbol of perfection. She often has her lackeys cause trouble just so she can come to the rescue, and look like a better person for doing so.

This is not who she truly is. She's nowhere near the mask she chooses to show the world. She's used to getting what she wants and when she wants it. She's desperate for attention and often finds it in the form of her brother, the only one who's truly been there for her. She's very insecure of herself, which is why her brother's affections mean so much to her. She idolizes her brother, thinking he's absolutely perfect. Therefore, no one else can even come close to being as wonderful as he is in her eyes. Because she idolizes him so much, Nanami's also extremely jealous if anyone else gets close to him. She despises the girls that fawn all over him and attempts to protect him from them.

Abilities: Nanami may not look like it, but she is very intelligent. Her schemes are always extremely elaborate, if not a bit eccentric, and take a lot of planning to make sure they go as planned... even though they rarely do. On top of that, Nanami is also an ace duellist. Although she's lost to Utena each time she's duelled her, she's still a very skilled duellist.

Nanami is also very charismatic, and can use her charisma and charm to get her way, most of the time.

Weaknesses: Insecurity... Nanami is extremely insecure, and very concerned with how the rest of the world sees her. She's also known to rely on her big brother too much, to the point where it's extremely crippling. Because she's so attatched to the ideal of his perfection, this doesn't allow her to acknowledge other people's affections for her. This is because no one else is as perfect as her brother, and no one else will ever be able to break past his example.

History:
Nanami and her brother Touga were adopted when they were both still young children. The family that adopted them, the Kiryuu's, were a very wealthy family. During their childhood, Nanami had a growing dependency on her brother. She absolutely adored him, but was also completely possessive of his attention. She went out of her way to get him a cat for one of his birthdays, a cat which he absolutely adored. However, because he loved the cat so much and thus ignored her, she felt the need to get rid of it. Nanami stuffed the kitten into a box and sent it down the river.

All was well in her life until she reached seventh grade. She realized her brother was a playboy, and understood that's who he was. But she hated seeing the girls swarm around him and with the help of her three lackeys (Keiko, Aiko and Yuuko), she managed to keep many of the undesirable girls away. Until he set his sights on Utena Tenjou. Through many wild attempts, Nanami tried her hardest to keep the two of them apart. Despite her efforts (including a duel and many hilarious side stories, including elephants, curry and a boxing kangaroo), Touga continued to chase after Utena. A boy named Tsuwabuki began idolizing Nanami, and even "saved" her life. As a thank you for this brave act, Nanami graciously adopted him as her man-slave even though he was head over heels in love with her.

When Touga lost to Utena, he became extremely antisocial. He even stopped attending classes. This forced Nanami to name herself interum Student Council President, in her brother's absence. As young as she was, she was actually a good President, even if Miki and Juri only played along to appease her.

After professing her adoration to her brother, he rejects her and tells her that they are not blood related and that she's just like all the other girls trying to get close to him. Distraught, Nanami moves out of her brother's house and into the Chairman's tower where she witnesses something that truly disturbs her. One evening, she comes across Anthy and Akio being intimate. Disgusted and appalled, Nanami begins to withdraw herself from reality. She barks at Utena when she suggests that Nanami's relationship with Touga is similar to Anthy's with Akio (not knowing what she's truly implying). Nanami fell asleep that evening, hoping her brother hadn't meant anything he said to her... that it was all just a misunderstanding. When she awoke, she found herself in Manhatten...
